Washer-less Faucets:
- Turn off the water and remove any pressure build-up by releasing the water.
- If you are lucky enough to have the install papers this next step will be easy, but if not just make a crude diagram as you remove the parts, to aid you when putting the faucet back together.
- Should there be any build-up of minerals you will need to soak the parts in a solution of vinegar or if the build-up is great you will do better by buying a solution that is specific for this task.
( note: While your parts are soaking, take this time to remove any calking from the sink and face plate of the faucet.
) - Now that your parts are free of build-up you need to remove the retaining nut that is holding the cartridge in place.
You can now remove the cartridge with a simple tug, using pliers if necessary. - Replace with a new cartridge and follow your diagram to assemble your faucet for use.
- Turn off the water and remove any pressure build-up by releasing the water.
- Because these are constant moving parts you usually will not have that much build-up, but if u see any that appears to impede the movement of the faucet parts it would be a good idea to soak them.
- Now remove the retaining nut for the hot and cold valves and this will release the valve stems allowing you to pull them out.
( note: The hot side is the one that will leak first most of the time, but you should change both washers at the same time.
) - Remove the screw holding the washer in place and use your old washer to find a perfect match for the new ones.
- Replace the washers and hand tighten the holding screw Use a commercial grade silicon lubricant to lube the moving parts and washers.
- If your faucet valve stems have o-ring, you can use a toothpick or something similar to slide under and remove.
Then replace them with new ones and apply lubricant. - Follow your guide to assemble the repaired faucet.
Now with your new found knowledge you can fix all your Glacier Bay Faucets and maybe even your friends too.
