Nothing says "possibilities" like a new box of crayons.
I remember being so excited as a child by a new box of crayons and a stack of clean paper.
Oh, the possibilities! There were no lines to color within, no flowers already drawn, expecting to be made yellow or pink or red, no sky to be disappointed if it wasn't blue.
I couldn't articulate it yet, but even then I was aware that the best times in my life were those that started with a blank page, an idea, and a fresh box of crayons.
As an alleged grownup, that fresh box of crayons has been replaced by a well-stocked kitchen.
Want to see my energy level rise off the scale? Turn me loose in a kitchen with fresh ingredients, sharp knives, and hungry friends to feed and watch me go! Just don't look for me to pull down a cookbook.
Oh, I have them...
but they're for rainy-day thumbing, not actual cooking.
Cookbooks are like coloring books; someone else has already had the fun and you're just filling in the spaces, adding yellow where yellow should be.
For me, cooking is starting with an idea and a bowl and creating something delicious and nourishing and beautiful.
We're happiest when we find what fires the passion in us.
Call it knowing yourself, finding your bliss, chasing your rainbow...
whatever words you use to describe it, you know you've found it when you experience the pure joy that comes from doing something you were born to do.
It's in the moments when we lose ourselves that we're most surely found, and from those moments that our greatest contributions to the world around us are born.
Today's Joy Juice is in the possibilities - here's wishing you many happy days, many hours lost in the pure joy of doing, and a fresh, new box of crayons of your very own.
