- 1). Place the saddle on a saddle rack. The saddle should be in a level and well-lit area to allow you to easily read the measuring tape.
- 2). Place the measuring tape at the front of the saddle. For an English saddle, place one end of the measuring tape on the screw on the left side of the pommel. For a Western saddle, place the measuring tape directly below the horn on the pommel.
- 3). Stretch the measuring tape back to the middle of the cantle; the cantle is the back of the saddle's seat. The measurement that your tape shows is the seat size of the saddle.
