- 1). Pin the pattern to the fabric, keeping the pins within 1/2 inch of the pattern edge. Cut the pieces out using the scissors. Remove the pins. Use the tailor's chalk to transfer marks for darts and any other special pattern markings onto the cambric fabric.
- 2). Pin the cambric shirt pieces together according to the directions that came with the pattern. Keep the pins 1/2 inch or less from the raw edges.
- 3). Thread the sewing machine with the mercerized thread. Sew the pieces together using a medium-short straight stitch. Press the seams open with your finger and trim 1/8 inch off the raw edges with the pinking shears. Sew inside each pinked edge with the sewing machine set to make a straight stitch.
