Tips For Potty Training Your Child

Potty Training can be very frustrating and stressful.
With a little help and a few tips hopefully it will be easier for you.
Usually the best time for toilet training is somewhere between 18mths and 3yrs, there are several signs to look out for to know that your is both physically and psychologically ready to start potty training.
It is a good idea for your child to be showing 3 or more signs to make it easier for you.
The signs to look out for include: - staying dry for at least 2hrs at a time - having regular bowel movements most days - are able to pull of and on their own pants - recognise they are going to the toilet - don't like the feeling of being in a dirty diaper - is curious about people going to the toilet - wants to watch you on the toilet - is able to follow instructions easily - may even ask to use the potty Once you notice 3 or more signs then it becomes time to start.
The most important thing to remember is to stay as relaxed and patient as you can.
It may take a little while for the little one to get the idea, but with encouragement and praise they will learn what to do.
Ideas to help make it easier for both of you include: - there are most likely going to be accidents, don't get upset about it.
Just keep giving as much encouragement and praise as possible.
The more relaxed and calm you are then the more your child will be relaxed about it.
- start in the summer months if possible, it makes it a lot easier for the child with less clothing, and also easier for you with less washing.
- let them learn by watching you or other family.
It makes it easier for them if they can see itmodeled.
- keep the potty in the room that they spend the most time i.
e.
living room, playroom.
It makesit a lot easier for a last minute dash.
- ask them if they want to sit on the potty rather than telling them to.
If its their choice to sit on the potty then they will be a lot happier sitting on there next time.
- only leave your child on the potty for a few minutes at a time.
Even if they have done nothingit is better to let them get off than to make them stay there when they don't want to.
- using a sticker wall chart to show your child's progress also helps greatly.
They love to be able to get their reward for going potty.
The most important thing to remember is that this only happens once in your child's life and you don't want it to traumatic for either of you, so being very patient and having a relaxed attitude will make a big difference.
