Fin and Tail Rot - Fish Disease Treatment in a Tropical Fish Tank

Before starting to use any medication for your tank and the fish, clean the tank completely.
This will in itself solve a big part of the problem.
Then scrub the whole inside of the glass.
Otherwise, what you can do is to completely wash the whole setup including gravel and substrate.
Minimizing the area where bacteria can live is an important thing.
For this, you need to take out the ornaments from your tropical fish tank and bleach them thoroughly.
Also, clean the outside of the tank, hood light and tank's lid.
There are various different degrees of fin and tail rot that determine the kind of treatment to be used in your tropical fish tank.
For the initial stages of the spread of disease it is advised to use Melafix along with the aquarium salt.
This is an all-natural kind of medication that you can provide your fish and tank.
Also, this way you can avoid any kind of destruction of your biological filter.
Add the amount of salt, you want to put into the tank, to a little water and then dissolve it properly.
Now add this to the tank and do this on regular bases.
Also, try to regularly replace around 10% of water at some definite intervals.
This will help to treat the bacterial infection along with helping the fish to heal their damaged fins.
You can also move the fish to a new tank and then do all the necessary medications to them while you clean the tank and wash it thoroughly.
As stress is the major cause of disease so, following a proper protocol for adding the new fish to the tank and the acclimatizing them is an important task in this case.
This will prevent them from having any kind of stress.
If fin and tail rot occurs despite all your efforts then try to keep a close look on them and try to have an early warning if anything like this is happening in your tank.
