- Damping off disease is commonly caused by the Phythium fungi. The disease causes young tomato plants to collapse and die. The fungus often rots the seeds before germination in the soil or causes decayed shoots on emerging seedlings.
- Fusarium wilt is a fungal disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici. The fungus is exclusive to tomato plants. Tomato plants infected with the pathogen turn yellow, wilt and eventually die.
- Phytophthora root rot disease is caused by the Phytophthora fungi that primarily weaken the roots of the infected plants. Early symptoms include stunted plant growth, with eventual death. Death of tomato plants is more rapid during hot weather.
