- 1). Find a room in your apartment or home with easily accessible electrical outlets. Ideally the room will permit plenty of natural lighting during the daylight hours and have a steady temperature, protected from drafts.
- 2). Set up your table or plant stand near the electrical outlet, and arrange your potted plants on it.
- 3). Position the halogen clamp light above your plants, at least 18 inches away. Good options for keeping the clamp light steady include attaching it to a nearby bookshelf or cupboard. You may also consider installing a gardening shelf above your plants to attach the clamp light to. The shelf could also hold your gardening materials, such as fertilizer and water.
- 4). Keep the light on no longer than 14 hours a day, preferably during and around regular daylight hours. You can turn the light on shortly after you wake up and shortly before going to sleep.
- 5). Monitor your plants carefully at the beginning. Halogen lights can produce a lot of heat and can scorch your plants if the light is too close or direct. If you start to see browning or burnt leaves consider moving the lamp farther away or turning the brightest part of the light to the side.
