ADHD and Anger in Children

It is no wonder that so many children with ADHD have issues with anger.
Is it a question of ADHD symptoms such as inattention leading to situations that provoke anger or is it biological in nature? In this informational article titled "ADHD and Anger in Children" we will explore the basics of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and drill down into the biological aspect of the illness.
For years many professionals doubted the existence of ADHD but today most doctors accept it as a real and potentially troublesome mental illness characterized by difficulty paying attention and a high degree of restlessness and impulsive behavior.
Symptoms begin before the age of 7, last at least 6 months, and cause the child substantial difficulty in at least two settings, usually home and school.
It is estimated that one out of every two children with ADHD experience anger in varying degrees.
ADHD and anger in children is generally observed as hostile and negative behavior which if left untreated can lead to a virtual cornucopia of additional symptoms.
A smaller number, perhaps two out of every ten, engage in aggressive behavior toward people or animals while striving to violate important rules.
Connecting the Biological Dots While it is still somewhat of a mystery how brain chemical and interact research has given us some clues into the mind of the ADHD child.
These brain chemical known as neurotransmitters deliver messages inside the brain allowing the brain to communicate with itself.
They are the bridge that allows signals to effectively pass over the void.
When they aren't available or the balance is off behavioral problems are sure to follow.
The primary symptom of inattention is often a result of too much norepinephrine activity in relation to the amount of dopamine activity.
Impulsivity is thought to be caused by too much norepinephrine or too little dopamine.
Obsessive behavior so often seen in angry ADHD children is though to be an indication of too much dopamine in relation to the amount of serotonin.
In summary, when a child has a problem with brain chemistry which leads to behavioral concerns, it can have a snowball effect, leading a child to become angry, frustrated, and irritable.
Many of the secondary attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms such as loss of self esteem, loss of motivation, boredom, worry, sleep disturbances, and hopelessness will only stoke the fires of their anger is left untreated.
The good news is that about 20% of the time the disorder resolves itself during adolescence; but more often than not the condition lasts into adulthood, although the symptoms may become less pronounced.
Additionally, ADHD and anger in children is a serious matter best left to the professionals.
That said many parents are finding answers through a combination of cognitive behavior therapy and homeopathic ADHD remedies.
Homeopathic remedies for ADHD are a safe, side effect free way of addressing primary and secondary ADHD symptoms and are option worth considering.
