Halitosis Treatment Using Best Remedies

The most obvious sign of bad breath is when you smell your own breath! Put a handkerchief or even blow on your palm and smell. If the smell is odorous, you have bad breath. Poor oral hygiene and gastrointestinal problems can cause bad breath. There are other bad breath culprits including onions and garlic. Bad breath can be caused by anything from bad dental hygiene to medicines you are taking to the food you eat. While it can be embarrassing, it can also indicate a serious condition and should be checked by a doctor. Barring any severe medical reasons, here are some tips you can use to fight bad breath.

1. Baking soda. You know baking soda as an ingredient in recipes, however it is also used in laundry and refrigerators to combat odor. Use it orally to fight bad breath. Simply add some to your toothbrush, add a little water, scrub and rinse.

2. You may also be able to fight bad breath by drinking the right kinds of liquids. We all know that tea is good for you but the chemical polyphenols found in tea can also help to prevent that sulfur producing bacteria that contributes to bad breath. Cranberries reduce the stickiness of bacteria so drinking cranberry juice can help reduce the amount of plaque that is formed and thus reduce the amount of bad breath.

3. Fruits packed full of vitamin C are also helpful in getting rid of bad breath. Food such as berries and citrus fruits lessen the increase of bacteria growth in the mouth. Eating berries, citrus fruits and melons also prevent gingivitis, which causes halitosis. Need to mask that onion or garlic breath after dinner? Try sucking on a lemon with salt.

4. Among the several home remedies for halitosis, the use of fenugreek has proved most effective. A tea made from the seeds of this vegetable should be taken regularly for correcting the condition. This tea is prepared by putting one teaspoon of seeds in half a litre of cold water and allowing it to simmer for fifteen minutes over a low flame. It should then be strained and used as tea.

5. Essential oils are plant extracts which means you're getting a strong concentration of the plant's benefits. Many essential oils have qualities that can fight bad breath. One home remedy is to add a few drops of tea tree oil to your toothpaste before brushing. For mouth wash, add one drop of Myrrh oil to warm water.

6. Drink lots of water and avoid letting your stomach get too empty. When you don't eat, your saliva production decreases and saliva can help wash away that bacteria in your mouth. Make sure your mouth does not get too dry by drinking lots of water throughout the day which is good for your overall health anyway.

7. Super crunchy fruits and vegetables such as apples, carrots and celery can be a tasty way to fight bad breath. These high-fiber edibles produce saliva, which cleanses the mouth of plaque buildup, which can cause bad breath. But you don't have to eat just crunchy fruits and veggies. Kiwi, papaya, pineapple, and green leafy vegetables contain digestive enzymes that promote healthy digestion.
