- Employers are required to periodically inspect the work site and equipment to ensure that all safety precautions are being observed. Workers must be trained to operate equipment properly.
- All electrical outlets on a construction site must have ground-fault circuit interrupters. If overhead power lines are present, all employees must be trained to avoid activity within the restricted area around the power lines.
- All workers must be protected from falling and from falling objects. This is done by using the appropriate ladders, lifts and scaffolding systems.
- All power tools are required to have guards to prevent injuries. This can include physical guards, proximity shut-off switches and emergency kill switches.
- All personnel within a construction site have to be protected from health hazards, such as toxic fumes, asbestos, non-ionizing radiation, excessive noise and bright light, such as from a welder.
- Employers are required to provide personal protective equipment to protect workers from injury. This equipment includes ear plugs, goggles, respirators, gloves and helmets.
