Step by Step Through Lasik Vision Correction Surgery

New technology in Atlanta vision correction gives you the chance to get rid of your glasses and contacts.
Atlanta LASIK surgery is a painless solution that can dramatically affect your lifestyle.
Vision correction once meant wearing eyeglasses for life.
When contacts came along, those with vision problems rejoiced.
However, modern technology has revolutionized Atlanta vision correction, enabling those with vision problems to correct those issues without the need for glasses or even contacts.
What technology is responsible for this revolution? LASIK technology allows those who suffer from vision problems to correct those issues in an amazing way.
Who can benefit from LASIK technology? How does the procedure work? Almost anyone can benefit from LASIK surgery, though you must have a relatively stable prescription and be dissatisfied with your current vision correction solution.
If you long to be free of your contacts or eyeglasses, then LASIK may just be the best choice for your needs.
How does the surgery work? LASIK procedures are relatively simple and make use of advanced lasers to remove mere microns from the surface of the eye, helping to reshape it for better vision.
The steps involved include:
  • Preoperative Treatment - A topographer must use noninvasive laser technology to make a topographic map of your eye.
This map is then used by the surgeon to determine which areas need to be reshaped and how much tissue must be removed from the eye.
You will also be asked to stop wearing your contacts for a specified period before the actual surgery.
  • Operation - The operation, itself, is done with you wide awake and alert.
Some surgeons may provide a mild sedative, but this is done to calm your nerves, rather than eliminate pain.
The surgeon will make a tiny incision, creating a "flap" in your cornea.
Advanced technology uses a modern laser (called a femtosecond laser microkeratome) to create this flap, which is then folded over to reveal the mid-layer of your cornea, called the stroma.
  • An Excimer laser is then used to remove micron-thick layers of tissue from your cornea, in the areas that the surgeon has deemed in need of reshaping.
The process of laser ablation is painless and requires no sedation.
Finally, the surgeon repositions the flap over the cornea.
No stitches or other medical devices are required to hold the flap in place; natural adhesion is sufficient to hold it and healing is very swift.
After the procedure is done, you will likely be given a prescription antibiotic to help ensure your health, and possibly an anti-inflammatory for any minor swelling in the cornea.
You will also be given a pair of very dark sunglasses to help protect your eyes during the short healing process.
