- 1). Visit the IRS website under "Where's My Refund".
- 2). Enter your Social Security Number in the first section. The number should be the same as what you entered on your federal tax return. If the number does not match, you will not be given any information.
- 3). Enter your filing status as you entered it on your federal tax return. You can choose from single, married filing jointly, married filing separately, head of household or qualifying widower. Make sure to choose the same filing status as shown on your federal tax form.
- 4). Enter the dollar amount of your refund. If you give the incorrect amount, the IRS will not give you an answer as to the status of your refund.
- 5). Click on "Submit" to view the status of your federal return. You will learn if the return was accepted and if it is being processed and what day you can expect a refund in your bank account or in the mail. If any government agencies have an intercept on your refund, the website will tell you. It will also tell you which agency has intercepting your money.
