The origin of Thai Airways International dates back to 1960, when the airline came into existence as a result of a joint venture between Thai Airways Company (TAC), then a domestic carrier and Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). It started its first operations by flying to seven destinations within Asia. The airline grew under the supervision, marketing and training provided by SAS until the Thai Government bought the entire shares in 1977 to take over the airline completely. Being the national carrier of Thailand, Thai Airways operates from its main hub located on the grounds at the Suvarnabhumi Airport. It has a fleet size of 90 Airbus and Boeing aircraft connecting 61 international and 11 domestic destinations across 35 countries.
