Have FAITH in Yourself.
Have FAITH in Others.
Have FAITH in the Future.
In his famous commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005, Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Computer, explained part of his story and a few of the things that helped him become one of the most successful inventors since Thomas Edison.
He remarked that: "Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.
So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.
You have to trust in something -- your gut, destiny, life, Karma, whatever.
This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.
" I have made a study of successful people for years.
I remember sitting on the floor of our local library as a young boy reading about Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Cyrus McCormick and many others - I was fascinated with biographies.
The stories are all unique in circumstance and era, but each one demonstrates the essential ingredient - FAITH.
A WIKI dictionary definition tells us that "FAITH is trust, hope and belief in the goodness, trustworthiness or reliability of a person, concept or entity.
" Simply - FAITH is trust, hope, and belief.
We need only apply this Faith and I suggest to Ourselves, Others, And the Future.
A little bit of FAITH today can go a long way toward curing what ails us.
FAITH in Ourselves When anyone is asked who they truly depend upon, they often answer with certainty: only themselves.
If that is the case, then it should be equally certain that we hold trust, hope, and belief in ourselves above all others.
I do not dismiss here the value of Spiritual FAITH in a Divine Providence as important for those that hold it (and I count myself among them).
I am suggesting that one must be self-reliant, believe in their own potential, hope for their own vision, and trust that they can achieve whatever they set out to accomplish.
A wavering Faith in oneself telegraphs weakness, concern, and worry to observers.
We can be uncertain and cautious about obstacles we may face, but we can never be without FAITH.
FAITH in Others An associate of mine once told me: everyone needs someone to believe in, something to believe in, and someone to believe in them.
This is so true; it is almost magical.
When we show others that we believe in them, it is like putting a FAITH deposit inside their heart and soul.
They come alive with new possibilities, they reach higher and higher to meet the belief you hold for them.
Their dreams and hopes and trust are vitalized and connected to your FAITH forever.
And the FAITH you share in them is mirrored back - increasing your own FAITH.
It is an endless upward spiral becoming stronger with each reflection.
FAITH in the Future FAITH doesn't live in the past, nor, does it live in the present.
FAITH only exists in the future.
The future is uncertain; it is shaped by many people and many circumstances and many natural events.
It can be shaped a bit by our plans and actions; and, the probabilities of outcomes somewhat improved by our judicious choices.
But, it is still uncertain right up to the moment it becomes the present.
That is why sporting events are played to the last second; and, millions of fans are on edge until the FAITH in their team results in reward or disappointment.
Isn't it amazing how we are always ready for the next sporting game with FAITH that our team can pull out victory.
This is the FAITH we need for our future.
Picture the best outcomes; believe that you deserve them; and, that you will earnestly pursue their accomplishment.
Yes, the world is fraught with problems; but it is also bubbling with endless opportunities and excitement.
Have FAITH!
