Atlanta offers a number of family friendly attractions for residents and visitors to enjoy. The Georgia Aquarium, Imagine It Children's Museum, and LEGOLAND Discovery Center are three of the most popular places for families to visit. Here are the highlights of what each attraction has to offer.
The Georgia Aquarium is located in downtown Atlanta, across from Centennial Olympic Park at 225 Baker Street. The aquarium has six galleries for visitors to explore. €Cold Water Quest€ features animals that live in cold ocean waters. Resident animals include 4 beluga whales- 2 adults and 2 juveniles. The aquarium is conducting research studies on the whales. The African penguin exhibit has windows and acrylic tunnels to let visitors view the nesting areas. There is a Southern sea otter exhibit and a touch pool with sea anemones and other creatures. Learn about the area off the Georgia coast in the €Georgia Explorer€ gallery. View the loggerhead turtles, stingrays, and horseshoe crabs. An interactive exhibit features Deepo, the aquarium's original mascot. €Ocean Voyager€ is the aquarium's 6.3 million gallon saltwater tank. Thousands of sea creatures live there, including 4 whale sharks and some huge manta rays. The gallery has large viewing windows and a 100 foot long underwater tunnel. €River Scout€ is the home of albino alligators, piranha, Asian otter, and a variety of freshwater fish. At €Tropical Diver€ explore tropical coral reefs with jellyfish, sea horses, and colorful reef fish. The 4D Theater shows Deepo's Undersea 3D Wondershow throughout the day. The Georgia Aquarium is open Sunday-Friday from 10am-5pm and Saturday from 9am-6pm. Weekday admission is $29.95 for adults and $23.95 for ages 3-12. Weekend admission is $34.95 for adults and $28.95 for children.
Imagine It- The Children's Museum of Atlanta is located across the street from the aquarium, at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Drive. There are 5 permanent exhibits for children to explore- Crawl Space, Fundamentally Food, Leaping into Learning, Let Your Creativity Flow, and Tools for Solutions. A special gallery shows changing exhibits. €Body Carnival: The Science of Being You€ will be shown from February 9-May 27, 2013. The exhibits are geared for children ages 8 and younger. Hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm and weekends from 10am-5pm. Admission is $12.75.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center is one of Atlanta's newest family attractions. The activities and fun are geared for children ages 3-10. There are two rides, a 4D theater, and a number of special play areas. Children can see how LEGOs are made in the LEGO factory. They can explore Miniland, Fire Academy, Construction Site, Earthquake Tables, LEGO Friends, and the LEGO Racer Build & Test Zone. Younger children will enjoy the DUPLO Village. LEGOLAND is located inside Phipps Plaza, at 3500 Peachtree Road NE. Hours are Sunday-Friday from 10am-7pm and Saturday from 10am-9pm. The last entry is two hours before closing. Admission is $20 for adults and $16 for ages 3-12. Online admission is less, and pre-booking of tickets is recommended.
