One of the great mysteries on the hit ABC show Lost is the origin and motivation of the mysterious others.
From this information vacuum some have begun a debate about whether the others are good or evil.
I submit that in the lack of a proper explanation we must examine the known facts and base our conclusion on those.
The facts are that the actions of the others, which include Murder, kidnapping, forcible confinement, forced labor, uttering death threats, and more.
You need to ask yourself whether you can think of any conceivable motive that would justify what these people have done.
Other fans who are fans of the others like to shoot back with straw man arguments, such as the flight 815 survivors being just as bad as the others.
While it is true that the survivors have done some bad things to the others one needs to remember that they were not the ones who started it, and were in fact defending themselves.
If some group of people had a history of attacking your group wouldnt you defend yourself? You cant judge a people based on what they say, or what they think.
You can only judge them properly based on their actions.
The others say they are the good guys but I cant remember ever hearing of good guys who acted in such a manner.
Whats worse is that they never even tried to ask for the survivors help, they just attempted to take what they wanted.
Now, I understand why they did.
Its a TV show, and conflict makes for good TV, but that excuse doesnt give these characters carte blanche to do whatever they feel and not be described as what they are: Evil.
In the end, the only person who can decide whether the others are evil or not is each individual viewer.
But I hope that if youre one of the ones who is under the mistaken impression the others are the good guys youll read this and it will at least make you think.
