On Wednesday 14th May Tudor House B&B, near Malham in the Yorkshire Dales was privileged to host Doug Hamilton Cox & his wife Sue. Doug is a remarkable guy who has raised thousands and thousands of pounds for HELP FOR HEROES with sponsored walks of incredible length.
His latest escapade is a John O'Groats to Lands End walk and he has enlisted the help of the Rotary organisation to help out with logistics and particualrly accommodation and collections.
He left John O'Groats on 11th April and is on schedule to be at the finish by 17th June.
The Rotary Club of Skipton Craven were delighted to take over this responsibility on 14th May and Tudor House hosted him as he passed through our patch.
Members of the clubs walking group tried to keep pace with Doug during the day on his walk from Airton to Kildwick but found it tough going even though much of the day's walk was along the canel tow path! A stop off in Skipton to rattle the collecting bucket came as a welcome relief!
The day before Doug had been looked after by members of the Rotary Club of Settle.
Members of the club then attended a BBQ at Tudor House on Wednesday evening and thankfully it kept dry. Rotary members from Ilkley & Settle joined in and again the bucket went round.
The end result was we packed Doug & Sue off on Thursday morning rested, fed & watered and some £564 better off than when he joined us. His walk on Thursday was taking him to Halifax and the Rotary Club of Keighly was handing him assistance.
It was a great pleasure to be a small part of Doug & Sue's marathon adventure and we wish them all the luck in the world in completing it and hope that he meets lots of generous people on his way south through to Lands End.
