Electric PT Boats The Future Of Motor Boats

Not many people know that PT boats actually stand for 'Patrol Torpedo' boats. They were conceived and used first by the US Navy during World War II to take on the might of their larger and stronger enemy counterparts such as the Japanese Destroyers. The small size and high speed of these PT boats had literally made them indispensable during the war years, as they allowed US Navy the advantage of stealth.

When considering the fact that these PT boats were so small, fast and relatively silent, the Japanese enemy ships could hardly trace them on their radars, forget see them. Thus, PT boats have a rich legacy behind them, of helping the nation win many small wars being waged on the open seas and sinking numerous Japanese heavy weight cruisers and surface ships in the bargain. Today, these boats have been revived by popular demand. However, no longer are these boats needed for fighting off enemies and as a direct result, these boats are no longer available in the same shape, size or dimensions.

If you were to actually go looking for these boats you would be surprised to say the least, as most surviving PT boats [http://www.elcomotoryachts.com/about-us/history.shtml] are outside museums and have been drastically converted and adapted to modern style boating comforts. Earlier, such boats only carried heavy artillery and weapons, today most such boats have all the corresponding luxuries fitted on to them, such as fridges, music systems and everything else that is expected on board a modern day boat.

However, the one thing that has definitely improved the overall experience of having and riding in a modern day PT boat is their electric motors. In fact, such boats are today also considered an offshoot of electric motor boats, with electric battery engines that can be charged and recharged when not in use.

This new development of electric motor boats has been expected and welcomed by all sea faring sailors and environment watchers, given the rising concerns over environmental degradation and sea pollution, which is otherwise common with such motor boats. Should you also be looking to convert or buy a new or used PT boat then it would only make sense to have your boat installed or converted to have an electric motor at its heart. This shall also ensure you have the same feel and the same speed, but only without the heavy pollution associated with most motor boats.
