Even if you aren't onboard, why throw away the materials that can make your own great soil? Some of the items that can be composted are:
- Grass clippings - you are mowing your yard, why not pile these up and start your own compost pile.
- Leaves - plenty of those in the Fall.
With a compost pile, you have a place to put them now.
No need to burn them or fill a plastic bag to go to the landfill.
You can use them to add necessary ingredients to make your compost. - Twigs and sticks - if they aren't too big, or if you grind them up, you can add them to make a good source of carbon for the pile.
If you leave them too large, it will take a long time for them to break down. - Vegetable and food scraps - Excluding fatty products or meat, you can compost most leftovers that are commonly thrown away.
Meat products will smell and attract pests and flies, so it is best to be left out of your compost mix..
