The Bottom Line
The finest film or (non-documentary) television show ever made about the Western Front, Band of Brothers follows 'Easy' Company through many important incidents in WW2. Honest, realistic, based on the real US Company and free from flag waving nonsense. Monumentally essential.

Guide Review - Band of Brothers DVD
Through ten episodes a viewer can follow E Company, an elite US rifle unit, through training, D-Day, the failed invasion of Holland, the Battle of the Bulge, into Germany, through a concentration camp, up into Hitler's Eagles Nest and finally through the final, but still deadly days. Near complete realism, honesty and attention to every detail has been coupled with sharp scripts, top notch camera work and superb acting. If this was everything about Band of Brothers, the show would already been the best. But, crucially, there's more. E company did exist and the program is based around their actual experiences; indeed, each episode is topped and tailed by onscreen reminiscences by the surviving soldiers. Their quiet, humble, words are powerful and truly invaluable, lending the show a gravitas and poignancy unmatched in cinema. As you may have guessed, I consider Band of Brothers exceptional.
