Keep The Kids And The Family Safe Outside This Summer

Summer is a great time of the year for families. Being able to get out and enjoy the sun, visit the beach and do things outdoors instead of sitting around at home brings everyone together.

While you're enjoying the weather over the summer and Christmas break, it's important to take every precaution to look after the kids. Sometimes, amongst all the fun being had, people don't stop to think about some of the more obvious dangers, as well as the less apparent ones.

Around the Pool

Have an adult supervising at all times

It's not hard to look away for a second and miss something, especially when you have a few families together at the house enjoying the pool. Make it easier on everyone; get some patio furniture and set it up in direct view of what's going on. With a few sets of eyes you won't have any trouble making sure everyone stays safe.

Take precautions for little ones

If you have under-7s running around, it pays to buy some arm floats and ensure that the pool gate is locked and secure whenever there's nobody watching out. It doesn't take much to stay safe around the pool if everyone keeps an eye on what's going on.

At the Beach

In the sun

Keep some sunscreen in the car, in the house, in your bag, anywhere! Just make sure there is plenty of it and everyone covers up to avoid those nasty, damaging sunburns. Invest in a shade canopy that you can set up with you for a better beach experience. Not only is it a great place to get some shade, take a break and store everyone's stuff, but it will also keep you visible from across the beach so that nobody gets lost.

In the sea

Teach the kids about rips and how they work and always swim between the flags where you can be seen. If there aren't any lifeguards at the beach then don't go in or be extra careful to stay in the shallow.

At the Park and on the Bike

Summer is a great time to start teaching everyone in the family about road rules, whether it's for walking or cycling, as well as proper bike safety. Get everyone in the habit of wearing a helmet from an early age and it will become instinctive, don't let under 10s ride on the road and show the older kids how to indicate properly and watch out for cars. Stop at every intersection, look both ways and have everyone join in on crossing roads safely when you're walking around in the sun.

Play it safe to ensure that you and kids have plenty of fun in the sun this summer!
