The Panda Gold Coin

As we all know, gold has always been the most sought after precious metal in the world.
From ancient times, people have shown a particular preference for it and used it in various purposes.
Either in the form of bullion or jewelry, the yellow metal has never ceased to be seen as a great investment opportunity.
Later on, things got even better when gold coins made their first appearance.
As the name suggests it, a gold coin is a coin made mostly or entirely of gold.
Due to its intrinsic value, this precious metal has been used for coins since the invention of coinage.
Nowadays, most gold coins serve to purposes very different from the original ones.
They are intended either for the collectors' pleasure or for their use as bullion coins, i.
e.
coins without a relevant nominal value and serving primarily as a method of investing in gold.
In modern times, many nations mint bullion coins also called 'investment coins'.
The Panda Gold Coin is an example of such a bullion coin and it has been issued by the People's Republic of China.
It was first introduced in 1982 and its name derives from the Panda design it pictures, as a tribute to China's Giant Panda Bears, an endangered species.
On the obverse of the coin there is a depiction of the Temple of Heaven in the center, with Chinese characters on top saying 'Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo' (meaning 'People's Republic of China') and the bottom mentioning the year of issue.
If the coins are part of a commemorative issue, the theme will be marked here also.
The reverse shows different portraits of panda, a design which changes every year, with one single exception though: the gold Panda coins issued in 2002 were identical to those from 2001.
They also come in different sizes and denominations, the smallest ones measuring 1/20 troy oz.
and the biggest ones going up to 1 troy oz.
or even higher.
The Panda Gold Coins are produced in several mints throughout China, including those from Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Shenyang.
As opposed to coins made by US mints which carry mintmarks to distinguish their origin, the Chinese mints do not usually use mintmarks.
However, in certain years there are some specific details in the coin design which allow for the originating mint to be identified.
Such details refer to small variations in the size of the date, style of the temple etc.
Very popular with both collectors and investors, the unique Panda Gold Coins are certainly on everybody's wishing list.
Ideal gifts or ideal investments, buying gold coins can't be anything else but a beautiful experience.
To make sure that this is the way things will happen, advice from a professional could be valuable.
