Free Drug Rehab Centers Fort Pierce Treat Opiate Addiction

Across the state of Florida, there have been more free drug rehab centers in fort pierce opening to help the large number of people addicted to drugs and alcohol.

The Florida Painkiller Epidemic

Due to limited restrictions on doctors who have the ability to prescribe powerful, narcotic painkillers in the past, the state of Florida is currently experiencing the highest number of pain pill addiction cases that it has ever seen. Many people have a predetermined picture of what a drug addict is or looks like. They think that a drug addict may look like a homeless person who has lost everything and has no hope. The recent pain pill epidemic proves this stereotype very false, as more and more everyday citizens who have been prescribed powerful narcotic drugs by their doctors have become addicted to them. This has led to a demand for free drug rehab centers across the state of Florida to treat those who have become addicted to painkillers.

Prescriptions Become Deadly

It's been very common over the last decade in Florida for people who experienced an accident or injury that required pain killers as medication to become addicted to the drugs that were initially prescribed to help them. These people, who are the addicted to painkillers, then turn to the streets or shady doctors to fill their need for more painkillers. This is addiction. Addiction is a disease that rules a person's thoughts, actions and motivation; forcing them to seek drugs or alcohol over everything else.

What is an Opiate?

Powerful narcotics such as Vicodin, Percoset, Xanex and Oxycontin are some of the most commonly prescribed painkillers that Floridians have become addicted to. Painkillers fall into the Opiate family of drugs and cause numbness, relaxed muscles and, in cases, euphoria to their users. The powerful effects of these narcotics can impact the actions and health of an individual who is addicted to them dramatically. Some of the common side effects of Opiate addiction include:

€ Analgesia
€ Sedation
€ Euphoria
€ Respiratory depression
€ Small pupils
€ Nausea, vomiting
€ Itching or flushed skin
€ Constipation
€ Slurred speech
€ Confusion or poor judgment

The effects of opiate addiction are tremendous and have led to a call for free drug rehab centers and low-cost addiction treatment to help Floridians who have been afflicted. There has been a significant increase in the number of opiate addiction treatment centers that is helping the large number of people being impacted by this epidemic; however, more are needed, as treatment centers across the state are at full capacity.
