The story of Salvador
The city of Salvador was founded in 1549 by the governor of Brazil, Sousa Thome as So Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos, in honor of Jesus Christ, the Saviour in Christianity, was planned and built to be the capital of the Lusitanian America, beginning the effective colonization of Brazil. It was built from scratch, within the Bay, without taking advantage of the existing structures, it was essential to ensure the defense of the territory. This year 1549, the city already had at least five churches: Grace, Victoria, Ladder, Concei§o Beach and Help.
In the 17th and 18th centuries was the largest and most important cities in America, with large port activities with Portugal and its colonies in Africa and Asia. Time when Portugal shared with Spain, the hegemony of the seas.
