The tourism industry has registered a higher growth than the global economy in the last year, as per Internationale Tourism's-Borse (ITB) - World Travel Trends report. ITB is one of the largest tourism trade fair of the world and has representative companies of hotels, airlines, tour operators, car rentals and other elements, as its members. According to the report, international travel increased by 4 per cent the previous year and is expected to grow by 4 to 5 per cent this year. Air travel being the fastest and most preferred mode of transportation has also increased at a great pace. An upsurge in international flights booking has been seen in the past few years along with domestic flights. Some routes are busier than others, depending upon the destination. A large number of flights are operational to popular destinations like Bangkok, Las Vegas, Goa, Beijing and London, soon to be joined by Abu Dhabi.
Increase in Percentage
As per International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports, Middle Eastern and Asian markets have the highest number of growth opportunities, and after research, it has been found that ticket booking from Asia to Abu Dhabi has increased by 73 per cent in the first quarter. Most first-time fliers prefer flight plus hotel booking; hence, growth in the hotel business has also been observed. If the trend continues, Abu Dhabi may become one of the top 50 most popular destinations of the world. The number of passengers from Indonesia has doubled last year, and this year 48 per cent of new travellers flew to this destination. These days, international travellers are opting for off-beat destinations like flights from Charlotte to Mumbai, Hyderabad to Charlotte, including Abu Dhabi for a getaway trip or business purposes. About 22, 20 and 18 per cent growth in the number of travellers from Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and Manila has been registered, respectively.
Growing Market in Asia
Asia is the largest continent on the basis of area as well as population with varied geographical locations and cultures. The reach of air travel is growing in this continent, and positive response from travellers has been seen. Hence, global and domestic airlines are working hard to capitalize the opportunity by deploying their resources on these routes. The approach of people towards travel and tourism is changing from a plain business trip to a leisure trip and getaway trip. Not only international trips, but domestic flights have also been increased by a large percentage.
In the coming years, it is expected that millions of new passengers will avail the services of the aviation industry, and more than 70 per cent of them may opt for domestic services. The traffic on domestic routes grew by around 4.9 per cent in the month of July itself that was almost 3.5 in the same month of the previous year. The demand increased by around 5.5 percent as compared to the performance of 2013, and the strongest growth was seen in China, followed by Russia.
