• The digestive system is how an organism converts food into energy, and the excretory system is how an organism rids itself of waste products produced by the digestive system.
  
  

Digestion

• Digestion happens in the small intestine. Any food that doesn't get absorbed moves into the colon. The less nutritious a food, the more it needs to be expelled from the body.
  
  

Kidneys and Waste

• Your kidneys filter blood, removing waters and salts that might be present. An average person's kidneys go through about 200 quarts of blood a day and remove about 2 quarts of waste material and water.
  
  

Nutrition and Excretion

• The more nutritious the diet, the less waste is excreted. Foods that are high in protein and low in starches will produce less waste than foods that are composed of fillers and other non-digestible materials.
